Ion Dosca becomes European champion among veterans

Grand international checkers master, world champion Ion Dosca confirmed once again his value. He won a gold medal at the World Veterans Checkers Championship held in Ukraine’s Eupatoria. This year’s competitions brought together more than 100 sportspersons from 10 countries, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ion Dosca became a winner in the competition for players older than 50, classical version. He outran second-ranked Valeri Grebenkin from Ukraine by 3 points. “Ion Dosca scored an excellent result – 13 points of 14 possible,” Elena Tkachenko, emeritus coach of Moldova, the wife and trainer of the sportsman, has told Info-Prim Neo. According to her, the tournament in Eupatoria represented the final preparatory stage for the World Checkers Championship ‘64’ version, which will take place in Saint Petersburg in a month. Ion Dosca is the best rated Moldovan checkers player. He is a double USSR Cup winner (1980 and 1990), USSR Champion, Russian version (1991), medal winner at World Championships, universal version (1993, 1996-97, 2004), World Champion, universal version (1999), U.S. Champion, pool-checkers version (2000). In 2006 he won the 14th title of National Champion, Russian version.
