The persons who buy health insurance policy individually have half a month more to pay the mandatory health insurance premium at a discount. The head of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) Ion Dodon called on the citizens to do this by March 31 as after this day the health insurance policy will cost 12,636 lei, which is its full price, IPN reports.
Under the law, by March 31 the citizens who are obliged to pay the health insurance in fixed amount pay 1,014 to 4,056 lei for it, depending on the category of which they form part. Farmland owners pay 1,014 lei, private individuals who carry out independent activities in retail trade – 1,622 lei, founders of individual enterprises, patent holders, lessees, lessors and persons who conduct activities in the field of product purchases – 2,028 lei, while those who practice as mediators, notaries, lawyers, bailiffs, experts and others – 4,056 lei.
“Nothing changes for the salary earners who total over 800,000 of all the insured persons. Nothing changes also for the persons insured by the Government. Things change only for those who do not pay for health insurance on time. I ask you to buy health insurance by March 31. A law of 2002 says the fixed amount of the health insurance policy is almost equal to the amount paid by a salary earner. On average, an employee in the Republic of Moldova annually pays over 12,000 lei. It goes to equity in the system. We kept the previous discounts for those who pay a fixed amount. Those who do not want to pay during the first three months of the year and pay health insurance only when they need medical assistance and risk incurring costs of tens or hundreds of thousands of lei should pay as the ordinary employees do,” Ion Dodon stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.
The law provides that the citizens who will not buy health instance policy individually will pay 12,636 lei for this after March 31 plus 0.1% penalty for each day of delay, while the status of insured person will be granted in seven days of the payment day.
“The absolute majority of those who pay after March 31 are those who need hospitalization. It would be fair and equitable towards the other participants in the insurance system if these persons buy health insurance on time. It is insurance against risk, not against something that already happened. Medical assistance costs. If we do not have incomes, we will be unable to cover these services. All those who make a small contribution will benefit when they incur very larger costs,” stated the CNAM head.
A person enjoys the status of individually insured person after this fully pays the health insurance and the policy is valid until December 31, 2023.
