The judges and prosecutors who broke the law must be removed from posts and must be held accountable, prosecutor of Chisinau municipality Ion Diacov said in a news conference at IPN.
The prosecutor said the phenomenon of corruption in justice reached an inadmissible level and measures should be immediately taken to combat it. Ion Diacov believes empowering the prosecutor general only to start criminal cases against prosecutors and judges is not right.
“I see a very serious problem – the prosecutor general holds the exclusive right to take legal action against other prosecutors. I would recommend amending the law so that this right is annulled. Why shouldn’t I be able to do something like this? Does no one trust that I can start a criminal case against the prosecutor general, who is corrupt? Why should only one person be able to do this?,” asked Ion Diacov.
The prosecutor commented also on President Nicolae Timofti’s address to the people, saying he agrees that the persons to blame for the sociopolitical situation in the country should be brought to justice. He reminded of several loud cases when the culprits weren’t punished in the accordance with the law because of the financial interests of some judges.
