Prime Minister Ion Chicu said Avia Invest Company that manages the Chisinau International Airport gives reasons for the concession contract to be terminated. The data concerning the investments made by the company are now analyzed and the process of ending the contract could be initiated in a month, IPN reports.

“The concession contract signed in 2013 offers the state minimal chances for terminating it. It’s good that the managing company gives us reasons for initiating the termination of this contract. The Public Property Agency is assessing the way in which Avia Invest has fulfilled its contractual obligations. The preliminary data show the company didn’t make investments at the initial and second stages, as the contract provided. This is a reason for termination. The Government will not accept this situation. We consider that damage was caused to the state. Thus, our actions will be aimed at having this contract terminated,” Ion Chicu said in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Also, Premier Chicu enumerated the risks existing in the relations between Moldova and the IMF a mission of which is to work soon in Chisinau. The first risk is related to the IMF’s request to increase the domestic gas tariffs. “We will most probably not accept to raise the tariffs as there are no economic reasons for such a move. As from January 1 this year, we have bought gas from Gazprom at a much lower price and there is no reason for increasing the tariffs. The second risk derives from the IMF’s decision either to accept our intention to invest in road infrastructure or not. We have discussions and witness flexibility here, which is welcome,” he stated.

The official said he remains optimistic that Moldova will continue its relations with the IMF. “If the mission meanwhile makes another request or imposes another condition that we cannot accept, this would lead to a pause in the relationship with the IMF. We stated and remain convinced that we can accept only the conditions that are not detrimental to the economy and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. We do not conclude agreements with the foreign partners at any cost,” explained Premier Chicu.

Nevertheless, he noted there are no risks that Moldova will be isolated at foreign level as this does not depend on the will of some of the politicians.
