Ion Chicu: Proposed measures should take effect as soon as possible

The measures stipulated in the bill for which the Government assumed responsibility should take effect as soon as possible. These are aimed at supporting the people and entrepreneurs in the crisis situation. The bill also contains amendments, in particular to the budgetary-fiscal legislation, which allow implementing the planned measures and ensure greater predictability for businesses as regards the regulations for the immediate period, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated in Parliament, where he was to present the bill, IPN reports.

The official said that among the proposed measures is the provision of minimal unemployment benefit of 2,775 lei. Also, the minimum monthly guaranteed income for families with low incomes was increased from 1,107 lei to 1,300 lei for the duration of the state of emergency. The VAT rate for the enterprises of the hospitality industry was cut from 20% to 15%. The social welfare for families that expires in the period will be extended until the state of emergency is lifted.

Premier Chicu said the bill provides that the patent holders who stopped work during the state of emergency will be exempted from paying the patent tax. The patent holders and the persons who practice independent activities and entrepreneurial activities and stopped work in the period will be refunded the social contributions in fixed amount.

While the Premier was making statements for the press, MPs of the Action and Solidarity Party entered the conference hall and chanted “Shame”.

The April 2 sitting of Parliament, where the Government was to present the bill for which it assumed responsibility, didn’t have a quorum. The Socialist and Democratic MPs didn’t appear at the sitting. After the Parliament’s Secretariat announced that only 39 MPs were present, Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi said the sitting cannot be opened because a quorum is not present.
