The day after being registered as a candidate for President, former prime minister Ion Chicu, nominated by the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova, launched the election campaign. In front of the Constitutional Court, the ex-premier said that he wants to bring the necessary change and restore citizens’ trust in state institutions, pledging to be a President of all Moldovans, IPN reports.

“With the will of God and the support of over 27,000 fellow citizens who put their trust in us signing for my nomination, I am committed to fighting for a better future for Moldova,” said Ion Chicu.

The former prime minister noted that he would not have accepted to compete for such a responsible position if he had not trusted his potential, the PDCM team, which, according to him, has the best trained professionals for the administration of the country.

Ion Chicu promised a fair campaign, based on respect for voters and competitors. The electoral program is based on ten priorities, including restoring the functionality of state institutions, improving the demographic situation, ensuring decent pensions and social allowances, developing the national economy and ensuring access to quality healthcare services.

The leader of the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova also highlighted the importance of pursuing a foreign policy that responds to the national interest. As for the commitment to European integration, the team of ex-prime minister Chicu proposes a national referendum at the end of the negotiations on accession to the European Union.

For the presidential election of October 20, 12 initiative groups submitted to the Central Election Commission the subscription lists with signatures in support of the candidates. Six candidates for the office of President have been registered so far. Six other files are in being examined. Only candidates registered by the CEC can start to campaign.
