The former Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Ion Chicu said he is considering the possibility of becoming involved in the country’s political life by creating a political party, of the center-right, whose goal will be to ensure Moldova’s integration into the EU and to unite society. He is exploring the possibility of founding a party together with former mates from the Government, IPN reports.
Even if he earlier was against involvement in the political life, Ion Chicu now changed his mind. He said he is tempted to found a political party together with former Cabinet mates, but he does not yet have a well-thought-up plan. The discussions he had with the people when he served as Prime Minister made him think about the possibility of changing things in the country by founding a party and by coming to power.
“The developments in the country and the opinions of a number of persons with whom I interacted in the course of 2020 made me think about this. I’m only having discussions. There are many unknowns to which we should find answers. Financing will be transparent, starting from dues and ending with sponsorships that would not oblige us to something,” the ex-Premier stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
Ion Chicu noted that the name of the future party was already reserved at the Public Services Agency.
“If we make a decision, the party’s goal will be to unite society as someone during 30 years has been skillfully splitting us, to ensure the European integration and to this way remove the border on the Prut. The party will have a center-right doctrine that will enable to solve economic problems,” he stated.
Ion Chicu resigned as Prime Minister on December 23, 2020. He was named to this post in November 2019.
