“A friend in need is a friend indeed” and this is a truth that comes out when a crying need is experienced, like at present,” Prime Minister Ion Chicu wrote on his Facebook page, expressing his gratitude to the international partners that offer Moldova assistance in overcoming the novel coronavirus pandemic, IPN reports.
“We see multiple examples how the partner countries help Italy in such a difficult moment. The Republic of Moldova, as the whole Europe, is in danger today. The Republic of Moldova also knows its true friends!” posted Premier Chicu.
He noted that a number of international organizations and states during the last few days provided support and/or expressed readiness to assist the Republic of Moldova in containing the pandemic.
“The World Health Organization and the UN, in general, the IMF and the World Bank, the EBRD and the CEB – we have close communication with everyone so as to get financial and non-financial support. The WHO delivered test kits, equipment and valuable consultancy to overcome this ordeal. We are grateful to the peoples and governments of China, Switzerland, the Russian Federation and the United States of America for the delivered support and the support that is on the way!” stated the official.
He thanked, in particular, Romania and the European Union for the provided assistance.
“We thank the Romanian Government for making an exception for the Republic of Moldova so that we can now buy and import medicines from Romania. We know that they are also considering the possibility of providing a consignment of antiviral drugs that are so necessary now in Romania too. I discussed today with the Ambassador of the European Union, Mister Peter Michalko. I know that an EU package of assistance intended for Moldova will be soon announced,” wrote Premier Chicu, contradicting his own adviser who, in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, spoke ironically about the assistance promised by Romania.
“Hundreds of national and foreign companies and tens of thousands of citizens provide financial and non-financial support. We also receive huge support from the most valuable people of the nation, who in this period help us sensitize society to the enormous danger. We thank you warmly!” said Ion Chicu.
