The mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban makes new accusations against the current government. He said the frequent requests by state officials to offer them “green corridors” for traveling unrestrictedly through Chisinau is one of the causes of the infernal traffic jams in the capital city. Ceban noted that after such an intervention, time is needed to regulate the traffic lights and this generates chaos in the city, IPN reports.
Ion Ceban said representatives of state institutions daily make tens of requests to offer them privileges in traffic so that they reach the destination quicker. When asked to comment on the situation, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița warned Ceban that this information concerns the proper work of state institutions and it should not be made public.
“Those who said that they will not need such privileges or will renounce them ask even more than their predecessors. I told Missis Prime Minister not to try and scare me. Furthermore, this is public information that refers to the worsening traffic congestion. There were days when we had over 80 such requests. They are made by functionaries of very important institutions, but they said they will not use such methods,” Ion Ceban stated in the talk show “Freedom” on TV8 channel.
The mayor made it clear that the congestion in Chisinau is a plot of the Ministry of the Interior against the City Hall. He said the collection of illegally parked cars and the easing of traffic are duties of this Ministry, but they are not fulfilled.
“Only the police can collect illegally parked cars. The mayor general cannot do this and cannot impose fines. Those who transport away such cars are representatives of companies with which the Ministry of the Interior signed contracts. They try to shift the blame onto the City Hall. This problem existed half a year ago, but wasn’t so serious then. Someone wants to cause such a problem and to shift full responsibility onto the City Hall, but we do not manage traffic,” said Ion Ceban.
He noted that the municipal police should be transferred back under the management of the City Hall so as to streamline traffic and to maintain public order in parks and yards of apartment buildings.
