The Party of Socialists (PSRM) is ready for early mayoral elections in the municipality of Chisinau and the party’s representative will win these, Ion Ceban, head of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council and secretary of President Igor Dodon, stated in the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.
The Socialist councilor said the PSRM will do its best for the municipality of Chisinau, after the local mayoral elections, to be managed by a person who will represent the political left. The resignation tendered by Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor is overdue, but is one of the correct decisions taken by this.
Ion Ceban noted that the PSRM also pleads for early parliamentary elections, which should be held simultaneously with the local ones. “If a possibility to announce early parliamentary elections appears, we will use it. If there is no such a possibility, we will try to obtain one,” he stated.
Vladislav Kulminski, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives, said Dorin Chirtoaca’s decision to resign was rather courageous. The fact that the mayor of Chisinau and the mayor of Balti resigned almost concomitantly points to the existence of a serious problem related to the local administrative bodies. “The problem resides in the fact that the center always and permanently exerted pressure on the local government bodies and used them in the own interests. In the Republic of Moldova, no serious decentralization of the resources and powers occurred. The concentration of the power in the hands of the Democratic Party resulted in serious pressure on the local bodies of power,” stated Vlad Kulminski.
