The mayor of Chisinau does not stop criticizing the government. Ion Ceban said the central authorities do not have time to deliver on the promises made to the people because they are busy criticizing the way in which the municipality of Chisinau is managed. He expressed his discontent with PAS MPs’ comments on social media about the utility poles that fell on the Viaduct. He noted that if an advantageous contract had been negotiated with Gazprom and the municipality hadn’t covered the huge bills of the social facilities in Chisinau, the saved money would have been used to modernize the public lighting system, IPN reports.

The mayor of Chisinau said that he has defective communication with the central public authorities even if he is ready to meet with any minister to discuss the problems of the capital city. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s criticism of the way in which the city is managed. Ceban noted that to subsidize the gas bills for social institutions in Chisinau, the municipality has to allocate 335 million lei from the local budget. But this money was earmarked for city modernization projects.

“Those from the government see only what’s going on in Chisinau. MPs post on the Internet a pole that fell on the Viaduct. Yes, this happened because infrastructure is in a poor state, but this sum of 335 million lei that the Government does not want to cover for us could have been used to replace the LED devices up to Anenii Noi. How can one rejoice at the fact that a pole fell or a street was flooded? Why do the MPs behave so hypocritically?  They do not have time to work. They have to deliver results, but they spend time commenting on the developments in Chisinau,” Ion Ceban stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.

The mayor noted that municipal funds have been allocated for rehabilitating the most used bridges in Chisinau, which cause headaches to the municipality, but there are no companies ready to execute such works.

“A tender contest to choose a contractor that would rehabilitate the bridge on Mihai Viteazul St was held for the fourth time. What shall I do if no company wants to take part in the contest? We earmarked money in the budget for the purpose. The business entities do not have capacities and resources to do this. We are looking for partners in Ukraine, Romania to invite them to repair bridges in the Republic of Moldova. Maintenance works are also needed on the bridges situated on the streets Ismail, Grigore Vieru, Mihai Viteazul, Viaduct. Nothing has been done for tens of years. The infrastructure was destroyed or the performed works were of a poor quality,” said Ion Ceban.

Most of the 20 bridges managed by the municipality are in an unsatisfactory state and need to be repaired. The mayor noted yet that no bridge in the city is at serious risk of collapsing.
