The Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor general of Chisinau municipality Ion Ceban on April 10 submitted the set of documents required for being registered as a contender in the May 20 mayoral elections. Ion Ceban said he will vacate his seat of municipal councilor by this evening, IPN reports.
Making statements for the press, Ion Ceban said he designed three actions plans, for long, medium and short terms, for transforming Chisinau into a modern capital.
Until April 2019, Ion Ceban aims to work out the General Urban Development Plan. He said he will demand to fully audit all the subdivisions of the Chisinau City Hall so that he could shortly present a new functional organogram of the municipality. “Regrettably, Chisinau looks like a village with communal infrastructure. We want to modernize it,” stated the aspirant.
While Ion Ceban was submitting the documents to the Electoral Council, members and supporters of the Party of Socialists staged a demonstration in front of the Council’s building. Asked if this can be considered an electoral event, deputy head of the Electoral Council Ina Babin said Ion Ceban has the status of applicant and until this is registered as a contender the police are responsible for all the electoral events.
So far, documents to the Chisinau Municipal District Electoral Council were submitted by: the candidate of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu; candidate of the Party “Democracy at Home” Vasile Costiuc; common PPPDA-PAS candidate Andrei Nastase; candidate of the Party “Our Home - Moldova” Alexandr Roshko, and candidate of the Shor Party Reghina Apostolova. Sergiu Tofilat and Maia Laguta, who intend to run as independents, asked for the subscription lists to collect at least 10,000 signatures in their support. Acting mayor of Chisinau Silvia Radu announced she will start to collect signatories on April 11.
