The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration offered a batch of humanitarian aid to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to help it manage the inflow of refugees in Moldova. The equipment to the value of over US$163,000 will be distributed to the Inspectorate’s subdivisions, IPN reports.
Alexandr Tatarov, deputy head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, said that this is not the first donation made by the Government of the U.S., which has been a reliable partner of the Inspectorate the past few years, and from the IOM. “The donation from these partners helps us to get ready for eventual emergency situations, disasters and the refugee crisis,” noted the official.
IOM Emergency Coordinator Margo Cara Baars said that Moldova’s emergency response to affected persons who fled from the war has been exceptional as was the reaction to the recent events in Turkey. The Inspectorate showed that is strengthens its capacities and has a high level of training. “Enhancing this institution’s preparedness so that it could cope with new situations, consequences, either it goes to refugees or to other situations, is our responsibility and the big challenge in the cooperation with the Inspectorate,” stated Margo Cara Baars.
The donation consists of fan heaters, generators, containers, tent lining and an excavator.
