Projects to the value of about 1 billion lei will be implemented in 2017-2020 with money from the National Regional Development Fund, whose resources represents 1% of the state budget. These include infrastructure, water supply, solid waste management and other kinds of projects, head of Glodeni district Ion Leuca, who chairs the North Regional Development Council, stated in a news conference at IPN.
“The territorial-administrative division of the Republic of Moldova into 33 districts and the challenges we face do not enable us to solve the vital problems confronting the communities. The services should be regionalized. Only by concerted effort will we be able to solve these problems. For the purpose, all the regional players from the northern part of the country should become involved. Thus, owing to the investments made by the North Regional Development Agency, Glodeni district takes the first steps towards developing tourism, with investments in the natural reserve “Padurea Domneasca”, where a tourist pension was set up with investments of 4.5 million lei and this is ready to welcome tourists,” stated Ion Leuca.
The head of Glodeni district mentioned also a project to the value of 40 million lei to supply drinking water to the villages Cuhnesti and Balatina, the financing for which it to be approved.
Ion Bodrug, director of the North Regional Development Agency, said the projects implemented in northern Moldova starting with 2011 have positive dynamics. Investments during the first year totaled 20 million lei and then 40 million lei. A sum of 54 million lei is to be used this year. “The requests made by the local public authorities referred mainly to investments in infrastructure, but we also took into account projects aimed at stimulating the economic development of communities in general,” he stated.
The director provided several examples of already implemented projects that created jobs such as the Business Incubator in Larga, which is a multifunctional center. A number of road sections were rehabilitated. To sensitize the inhabitants of the northern region to the problems of potato growers, a Potato Festival was staged in 2010.
“We now receive consultancy from Latvia over the building of a factory for processing ecological potatoes. Ecological potatoes, which are very appreciated on the European market, have been cultivated on the territory of Zabriceni Monastery of Edinet district this year. This way we promote ecological agriculture,” stated Ion Bodrug.
The Industrial Park in Edinet is another example. This will start work this year. The park already has a resident. This is an investor from Ukraine that applies a new apple processing methodology. Thus, the apple growers of the region will be able to sell their apples for making juice.
The Balti Free Economic Zone has 11 subzones already. The largest investor in northern Moldova, Dräxlmaier, expressed its intention to increase investments by €20 million so as to create another 800 new jobs.
