Over the last two years, investments in the Moldovan healthcare system increased 6 times, amounting to 114 million lei in 2012. 5% of the GDP is allocated to this system. However, these figures aren’t enough to provide the people with quality medical services and advanced medical equipment. The statement was made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat during the first National Health Forum on Thursday, November 22, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Filat said that in recent years 39 medical centers in villages were built or renovated. Other 35 are under construction or renovation and this aspect will remain a priority for the Government. Another of the priorities named by the Prime Minister is the transformation of emergency medicine into a modern service focused on the patient in any situation and the implementation of the 112 emergency reanimation and extrication service. Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said that one of the main challenges of the health system was the active aging of the people. Quality medical services are needed, but these are expensive. In the coming years, the burden of the healthcare system will only increase. According to studies, in 2050 the percentage of people aged over 60 will be more than 30% of the whole population. Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Moldova Jarno Habicht said that the WHO was interested in all the achievements obtained by Moldova over the last 4 years in the healthcare system. The organization’s goal is not to say how and what the state should do, but to provide help and assistance when support is needed. During two days, November 22 and 23, doctors and specialists from various fields of healthcare talk about the challenges, trends and future tasks of the Moldovan healthcare system during the National Health Forum “A Healthy Moldova: Policies, Achievements and Opportunities”, organized by the Ministry of Health, the WHO and the EU Delegation.
