The Ministry of the Interior took a number of measurers to make sure that the protest scheduled for April 24 is held smoothly. The police identified attempts to organize aggressive events during the protest. An investigation was thus opened into the violent actions planned by a group of people, including in relation to the police, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan told a news conference on April 22, IPN reports.
The minister noted that he cannot provide details as the investigation goes on, but confirmed that violent actions were indeed planned for April 24. “We will engage a large number of police officers to maintain public order during the event. But the organizers must also make sure that the demonstrations are peaceful. We call on the organizers of the event to inform themselves and to ensure the legality of their actions. We call on the people not to become involved in violent activities and to report such activities to the police. We also call on the mass media not to accept to broadcast messages that instigate violence,” stated Alexandru Jizdan.
On April 24, the police will maintain public order and security on the national roads and in the capital city in the period of the marches. During the demonstrations, the public and private transport will not have access to central Chisinau. The section of Stefan cel Mare Blvd between the streets Pushkin and Banulescu-Bodoni will be closed to traffic.
Alexandru Jizdan also said that he saw a published statement of one of the organizers, which says that the use of violence against the police is possible. He warned the organizers that they must obey the law, while the law enforcement agencies will make sure that lives and health of the police and the people are not endangered.
