An inventory launched in October revealed that vacant land makes up 6 percent (683 ha) of the total land in the ownership of the Chisinau municipality, and not 2 percent (230 ha) as thought before, - Nicolae Craciun, head of the municipal land department, told Monday's ordinary meeting at the City Hall, - Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Craciun, some 9,000 hectares have been inventoried so far out of the total 12,300 hectares. “After assessing the entire property, each plot will be assigned a cadastral number. Then the list of plots is to be approved by the City Council, and afterwards they will be introduced in the cadastral register of the City Hall and registered with the territorial cadastral body”, explained Nicolae Craciun. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the identification of vacant land will generate new financial resources for the development of the city. The proceeds from the sale of municipal property must be used only for capital investment in the interests of Chisinau, the mayor pointed out. Revenue from municipal land rent in Chisinau amounted to 8.8 million lei in 2008, with 125 million lei projected for the next year. The project “Management of the landed property: complete inventory of reserves for development”, covering the timeframe October 2008 – March 2009, is carried out by the municipal land department with assistance from UNDP Moldova. The Chisinau Mayor coordinates the project.
