Intoxicated man involved in accident that kills his wife and niece

Two persons, including a 7-year-old child, died in a terrible road accident caused by a drunk driver. The man aged 42 was the dead woman’s husband and dead girl’s uncle. According to the police, after a party organized in Chisinau, Ion Racovita, native of Sangerei raion, did not hesitate to drive his Opel Vectra car and to carry another six passengers, including 3 minors, all of them being relatives. At 2.00 am, near Calarasi town, the driver fell asleep. The automobile went off the roadway, ran into a tree and turned over. The man’s wife aged 41 and their niece of 7, who were on the front bench died on the spot. The other passengers received diverse injures, while the driver suffered no scrape. The Traffic Police Division of the Interior Ministry and Police Commissariat in Calarasi is investigating the case. A criminal investigation was initiated against Ion Racovita. If he will be found guilty, he risks facing from 6 to 12 years in jail, being deprived of the right to drive means of transport for a 5-year period. Another awful road accident occurred last night in Causeni town. An inhabitant aged 18, driving at high speed a "Scoda-Favorit" car on Tighina 5 street, lost the control of the vehicle and turned over. As a result of the impact a Chisinau resident aged 19, as passenger, died immediately, while the driver was taken to the hospital in the raion with different injures. In November, 45 persons died and 265 were injured in 265 road accidents.
