Actors of a number of Chisinau theaters staged an anticorruption performance that contained video sequences at the National Philharmonic on April 18. The play “Mitica is our man” levels criticism at a cynical, ignorant and corrupt society, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Sandu Grecu, chairman of the Theater Union of Moldova (UNITEM), said the play presents the reality. “We are to blame for what's going on in society. If we change our mentality, society will also change,” he stated.
The play written by Mihaela Perciun involves actors of the theaters “Mihai Eminescu”, “Eugen Ionescu”, “Licurici” and of the Cultural Center “Ginta Latina”. It was directed by Alina Turcanu. “The selection of the actors is important as, besides playing, they exchange experience,” said Sandu Grecu.
Lilia Carasciuc, executive director of Transparency International Moldova, which helped organize the event, said
the play urges the young people not to tolerate corruption and ignorance and to oppose the vices that affect the human values and undermine statehood.
Artistic director of the play Valeriu Turcanu said the people should realize the importance of fighting corruption so as to be able to build a bright future.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who was invited to the performance, stated that it is good that the play warns the parents and young people about the dangers of corruption. “Unfortunately, corruption exists and we must make effort to combat it,” he said.
The production was supported by the Theater Union of Moldova, Transparency International - Moldova, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
