Historically significant buildings in the capital are illustrated in a series of postcards exhibited at the Museum of the History of Chisinau, Water Tower. The exhibition showcases postcards from the interwar period, from the museum's collections and the Philatelists' Union of Moldova. The president of the union, Andrei Adam, mentioned that this exhibition gives the public the opportunity to study the past and sends the message to preserve valuable things and make the city more beautiful, IPN reports.

The exhibition includes 159 copies of postcards that show how beautiful Chisinau was a hundred years ago.

The director of the Museum of the History of Chisinau, Valeria Suruceanu, stated that some of the postcards are from the institution’s collection and represent recent acquisitions. These postcards, dedicated to Chisinau, date from the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, presenting historic buildings, some of which were destroyed during World War II, while others have been preserved until today.

“This is a presentation of local history, Chisinau in images from the interwar period. We hope there will be visitors. All the images are truly impressive, they are from those times and hold immense historical value,” emphasized Chisinau’s Deputy Mayor, Angela Cutasevici.

The first postcards from Bessarabia were printed in 1898 in Germany. Visitors appreciated the value of the exhibits and the opportunity to see images of buildings that no longer exist today. They remarked on the architectural beauty of the city and were able to compare how it has changed over time.

The exhibition was organized on the occasion of the National Culture Day and can be visited until February 15.
