The Central Dispatcher’s Office of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” in October recorded almost 1,000 calls concerning water pipe accidents and 1,249 calls about sewer pipe accidents. According to the company, in all the cases the intervention teams acted promptly to remove the faults in the water supply and sewerage system, IPN reports.

In a press release, the public utility says that in the same period, there were recorded 1,829 water pipe accidents, including 1,225 leakages, and 985 sewer pipe accidents, including 473 blockages.

To remedy the situation, the company’s teams carried out a series of additional works so as to ensure the smooth running of the water supply system. In 169 cases, water pipes with a length of up to 5 m and a diameter of 25 mm to 1,200 mm were replaced. There were also repaired 124 valves. Water pipes were washed and disinfected.

“Apa-Canal Chisinau” was also informed about 30 cases of stealing or absence of manhole covers on sidewalks, in parks and in areas between apartment buildings. Each call was verified and new covers were placed where these were absent so as to prevent road accidents and traumas.

The company said the analysis of the technical-economic indicators of its work revealed a slight decline in water losses in the process of fixing problems in the water supply system. This is due to the swift work done by its employees to remedy the situation.
