The international players that should place the monitoring of the human rights on the left side of the Nistru River high on the list of priorities ignore aspects related to their observance and guaranteeing in the given area, considers the executive director of the Association “Promo-LEX” Ion Manole. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, he said that this fact is worrisome when the people who live in Transnistria have limited possibilities of defending their rights when these are infringed.

The Association’s executive director said that a mechanism is needed in the region to make sure that the person who is accused is able to benefit from elements related to the violation of the rights to a fair trial. An understanding of the necessity of creating legal and credible mechanisms for the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region within the 5+2 format talks is needed. “Here, we need to identify elements that would be accepted both by Chisinau and by Tiraspol,” he stated.

According to Ion Manole, the officials in Tiraspol are very satisfied with the current situation in the area as they hold control and bear no responsibility for the human rights violations and abuses that take place in the given region.

Ion Manole considers that the Transnistrian regime will never want to make the changes demanded by the human rights defenders. Tiraspol insists on the idea that the human rights are political aspects. “The politicians should take into account the human rights and the principles of international law, which guarantees human dignity and respect for the rights and freedoms to each person,” he stated.

Ion Manole also said that “Promo-LEX” welcomes the resumption of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format, noting yet that this dialog must not remain sterile and without a positive impact on both sides of the Nistru.
