International Museum Day and European Night of Museums celebrated in Moldova

Moldova on May 17 will mark two of the most important cultural events aimed at promoting the cultural heritage and the policies to educate and enlighten the people in Moldova – the International Museum Day and the European Night of Museums. For the first time these events are staged under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. On this day, over 100 local museums and six national museums will open their doors for visitor, officials of the Ministry of Culture announced in a news conference, IPN reports.

The tenth European Night of Museums in Moldova will cover the whole country. More than 100 museums in Moldovan will work until midnight. Each exhibition will have museum guides, while the visitors will be able to take pictures of the exhibits free of charge. Glodeni is the town with the richest museum infrastructure, said Minister of Culture Monica Babuc. She recommended visiting the local museums of writers Dumitru Matcovschi and Grigore Vieru, which will be affiliated to the National Museum of Literature.

The exhibitions of the Chisinau museums will display museum collections that ensure cultural interconnections between them. “There will be a number of surprises this year, which will attract visitors. We are thinking about a virtual project to promote the patrimony. A website of the National Museum of Moldova will be created to enable the visitors to see the exhibits,” said Monica Babuc.

Director of the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova Eugen Sava said that two modern buses will be provided in cooperation with the Chisinau City Hall. Those who want will be able to go on a nocturnal tour of the city together with the Museum’s guides between 7pm and 11pm. There will be exhibited epoch cars and staged interactive activities, origami and picture taking workshops, chess competitions, etc.

Mihai Ursu, director of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Moldova, said the Museum will lay emphasis on the culture of different ethnic groups by mounting an exhibition of national costumes from different countries. The exhibit was organized in cooperation with embassies working in Moldova.

For the first time this year, the National Museum of Arts of Moldova will stage a performance of classical and jazz music that will last for almost 7 hours. In the evening, there will be mounted workshops of painting on archeological reproductions – symbols that transmit a message, an idea related to the people’s civilizations. The activities will be organized in cooperation with the Cultural Association “Noua Acropola”.

The events will be opened in front of the Puppet Theater “Licurici”, on 31 August 1989 St, at 7pm on May 17. Also then, there will be launched the Quarter of Museums Project that aims to create a website of the three museums. A part of the street will be closed for traffic.
