The International Day of Families that is marked on May 15 has been celebrated in Chisinau for the first time by a folkloric concert at the Culture Center “Ginta Latina”. The event was organized by the Buiucani district head’s office and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the State University of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The concert involved the folk dances ensemble “Hora-Horita” of the Buiucani district head’s office, soloist Maria Iliut together with the university ethnic-folkloric group “Crenguta de edera”, Maria Sarabas, Doina Arseni, and others. The folkloric ensemble “Cununa de pe Somes”, based in the Romanian town Bistrita, were the event’s guests of honor. “A nationwide campaign centering on the International Day of Families will be carried out, but no events will be staged in Chisinau. By organizing this concert we became pioneers,” said the scenarist of the concert, lecturer Constantin Schiopu. The International Day of Families has been celebrated since 1994, which was proclaimed by the UN as the International Year of Families as a response to changing social and economic structures, which have affected and still affect the structure and stability of family units in many regions of the globe.
