On the occasion of the International Day of Families, the Chisinau Division for Child Rights Protection is staging a series of activities in all the municipal community centers. Also, during May 15-16, training seminars will be held for members of families that are in difficulty, while the children will receive presents. These activities and the policies of the partnerships established in support of the children and families were discussed in a roundtable meeting organized by the Division, IPN reports.

“The family is the key cell of society. It represents a union of ages, but also a possible conflict between generations as an intuition. The family gives stability to a society. That’s why it is protected by written and unwritten laws,” the Division’s acting head Rodica Terehovschi said in the meeting.

The representative of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family Anastasia Gruzin said the Government of Moldova aims to develop high quality services for creating a harmonious environment for the growth and development of the child in the family.

The authorities admit that there are yet a series of problems including the poor financial situation of the families with many children and the lack of dwellings.

Valentina Canariov, head of the Division’s Family Reunification and Adoption Section, stated that following the activities to prevent the separation of children from the family, the number of cases of abandonment at birth has decreased during the last few years. In 2001, there were recorded over 200 cases of abandonment, while in 2015 only 15. The number of children in different forms of placement halved over the past three years.

The meeting organizers said the Chisinau Division for Child Rights Protection now monitors about 1,500 children who are in different forms of placement.
