International Book Show is over

The 20th International Book Show closed on September 3. During the closing ceremony, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education, the Chisinau City Hall, the National Library, the Writers Union and the Theater Union awarded prizes, Info-Prim Neo reports. The publishing houses ARC and Adevarul received the prize “Publishing House of the Year” from the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry of Education gave six prizes of 500 lei each, while the Chisinau City Hall offered 25,000 lei for awarding the laureates. There were given prizes to personalities and institutions for collections, CDs, translations, poetry, criticism, documents and prose. Among the awardees were established writers and beginners. “This year’s International Book Show has been the richest one and was organized the best. The Show’s partner – the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau – helped bring as many Romanian publications and publishing houses as possible,” said the director general of the National Library Alexe Rau. The International Book Show was opened on the Romanian Language Day marked on August 31. There were exhibited over 10,000 book titles printed by about 300 publishing houses from 15 countries. The participants represented the United States, Azerbaijan, Romania, the UK, Macedonia, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, China, Belarus, Turkey, Hungary, Germany, and Japan. The event was organized by the National Library, the Ministry of Culture, the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”, the Ministry of Education, the Chisinau City Hall, the Writers Union, the Society of Bibliophiles “Paul Mihail”, the Librarians’ League, the National Library of Romania, the County Library “Gheorghe Asachi” of Iasi, and the County Library “V. A. Urechia” of Galati.
