The intermediary in the “case of Gorbuntsov”, who last July was acquitted by the Hancesti Court, was sentenced to four years in jail by the Chisinau Appeals Court, being put on the wanted list, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the prosecutors at the Appeals Court proved that on the night of October 7, 2016, the offender smuggled €30,000 into Moldova from Russia. He received the sum in recompense for influencing killer Vitalie Proca to change his testimonies in the case of the murder attempt on Russian banker German Gorbuntsov.

On July 19, 2017, the judges of the Hancesti Court acquitted the defendant for the reason that his deeds didn’t contain elements of the smuggling offense. The prosecutes challenged the judgment. On May 22 this year, the prosecutor’s appeal was accepted and the culprit got four years in semi-closed jail and obliged to pay the equivalent of €20,000 in favor of the state.

The Appeals Court’s decision is enforceable, but can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.
