The Ministry of the Interior of Moldova should go through a reorganization period as the legal system institutions of Romania did, chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Division of Romania Laura Codruta Kövesi said in a press beefing held in Chisinau in concert with Moldovan Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean, IPN reports.

The official said there are two essential elements in the judicial activity, especially in corruption combating – professionalism and dialog between institutions. It was recently established that corruption is not a national, but a worldwide phenomenon. “We often see that we also have foreignness elements. The countries neighboring Romania also witness such cases and thus a good cooperation with the Moldovan judicial authorities is very important,” said Laura Codruta Kövesi, underlining the importance of an institutional dialog.

Dorin Recean said that the state institutions in Romania and Moldova are affected by corruption. “The Ministry’s Internal Protection and Corruption Combating Service was reorganized and we must strengthen its capacity to fight corruption and ensure the integrity in the system. We hope we will establish good cooperation relations with the National Anticorruption Division and other institutions of Romania for building this capacity,” he stated.

Laura Codruta Kövesi has been in Moldova on a visit. She chaired a roundtable meeting that involved representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Anticorruption Center, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. She shared Romania’s experience in fighting corruption in public institutions there. She also gave a public lesson at the State University for students of the Faculty of Law and of the Police Academy “Stefan cel Mare”.
