The Interethnic Relations Bureau will become the Interethnic Relations Agency, which will be a central administrative authority managed by the executive, IPN reports, with reference to a Government decision.
Currently, the Interethnic Relations Bureau is responsible for the working out, promotion and implementation of public policies on interethnic relations and functioning of languages spoken on Moldova’s territory. As a result of the made changes, the duty to promote the policies on interethnic relations was transferred to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
The Interethnic Relations Agency will be responsible for the strengthening of interethnic relations, development of intercultural dialogue and consolidation of civic identity, functioning of languages and promotion of linguistic diversity. It will also be in charge of the implementation of the strategy for strengthening interethnic relations in Moldova and of the plan of action for 2017-2020. The Agency will support the activities of the public associations of national minorities and will protect the cultural and linguistic heritage of the ethnic minorities.
