As of March 31, about 59,000 interest and asset declarations were submitted electronically via the e-Integritate system. Most of them were annual declarations, and about a thousand were declarations submitted upon taking up or leaving of a public office. The information was presented in a press conference by Rodica Antoci, head of the National Integrity Authority.

Rodica Antoci said that the electronic submission of declarations remains one of the most important tools in preventing and fighting corruption. As this is the second year that the e-Integrity system is used, it will be possible to check whether there have been any major changes from last year’s declarations.

By preliminary estimates, about 1,000 subjects failed to submit their declarations on time, and integrity inspectors are now working to identify them. Inspectors are also to come up with a verification plan soon.

Rodion Buzu, an integrity inspector, said every case of late or non-submission will be analyzed. Many subjects faced difficulties in filing the declarations, as some didn’t even know they were required to possess a digital signature, said Buzu, adding that it is early to talk about warnings and penalties.

Last year the Authority received 58,080 electronic declarations of interests and assets.
