The water charge should be raised to 15 lei per cubic meter so that SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) could fix the water meters from its own resources, in accordance with the recommendation of the National Agency for Competition Protection, the water supplier's director Constantin Becciev said in the February 7 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Constantin Becciev, the installation of water meters in apartments implies additional costs of over 200 million lei. These costs should be included in the charge and this means increasing the charge by over 60%.
“They always remember Apa-Canal and show care about our consumers before the elections. The assertions about the gratis installation of water meters are cheap manipulations aimed at influencing the poorly informed consumers,” said Constantin Becciev.
Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca wondered if they want to start a new business to fix meters. “Does raising charges mean protecting the end-users? Nothing is free of charge as the consumers have to pay out of their own pockets,” said the mayor.
Currently, the residents of Chisinau pay 9.19 lei per one cubic meter of water.
