The medical waste management at all the medical-sanitary institutions of the country will be assessed during October 12-20. The results will be discussed in the meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection. The inspections were ordered after a televised report showed the situation at the Anenii Noi District Hospital, which throws medical waste in a ruined block of the intuition to which everyone has access. Under the legislation, the medical waste should be destroyed, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Ministry says that it examined the case of incorrect management at the District Hospital and the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Point in Anenii Noi town. The Ministry’s employees established that there are two ruined blocks on the territory of the two institutions. These earlier formed part of the Anenii Noi District Hospital, but are now no longer used. Of the two blocks, one is managed by the district hospital, while the other one by the Anenii Noi mayor’s office. The garbage stored there includes medical and household waste.

Under the law on waste, one of the main duties of the managers of health facilities is to ensure the efficient management of medical waste. The managers of the medical institutions of Anenii Noi didn’t take care of this even if they signed a contract for the collection of waste with a specialized company.
