As of March 13, joint teams of specialists of local Public Health Centers and local divisions of the National Food Safety Agency will carry out inspections in a number of communities to see how the food safety and sanitary legislation is observed in kindergartens and schools.

Within the inspections, the specialists will assess the quality of products delivered to education institutions, correspondence of information on labels, presence of medical certificates of employees, etc. According to the representative of the press service of the National Food Safety Agency Ion Nistor, inspections will be performed all over the country.

The measures come after Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked that the Ministry of Health, the National Food Safety Agency and the National Public Health Center should formulate proposals for amending the legislation so as to eliminate the deficiencies existing in the process of delivering food products to education institutions after he identified a series of irregularities during an ad-hoc visit to a Chisinau kindergarten.

At the request of the Premier, the Ministry of Health suggested a draft Government decision to supplement the Contravention Code by introducing penalties for business entities that do not obey the sanitary legislation.
