If the two questions of the referendum of February 24, 2019 are supported by the people and they are put into practice, this will strengthen the authoritarian regime in the Republic of Moldova, Communist MP Inna Șupac, who heads the Party of Communists’ parliamentary group, stated in a TV program, IPN reports.
According to the MP, at first sight the questions put up for the referendum seem to enjoy support among the people, but the population should understand that it is not clear in what conditions the number of MPs can be reduced and, especially, in what conditions an MP can be recalled. “We, the members of the Communist group will be the first to be excluded as we refused to defect to the Democratic Party and we will be told “If you don’t want, we do not need you”. Secondly, who are those who will judge? Who will decide if an MP fulfils his/her duties or not?” asked Inna Șupac.
She also said that the participation in the referendum is a right of the voters, not an obligation. That’s why the Party of Communists calls on the citizens to ignore the two ballots intended for the referendum. “Furthermore, the people should request the member of the electoral office to put a dash or to write the word “refuse” instead of their signature so that the voter’s signature does not appear later on the paper,” explained the MP.
The politician considers the Democrats wanted the referendum to be held in order to gain more voters in the parliamentary elections, banking on the fact that the people will like the idea of the plebiscite and will vote for the candidates of the Democratic Party.
