The Central Election Commission on September 26 registered the candidate for President of the Sociopolitical Movement “Ravnopravie” Inna Popenko as an electoral competitor. Inna Popenko will be under No. 5 on the ballot, IPN reports.
CEC member Iurie Ciocan said the party’s initiative group presented over 24,000 signatures, more than 19,000 of which were validated. Signatures of dead persons were identified on the lists of signatures when examining these. Such cases were also detected in relation to other candidates. The Prosecutor General’s Office will be informed about these.
Inna Popenko has told the press that a difficult election campaign will follow. She voiced hope that this campaign will be an honest, correct and transparent one.
As to the ‘signatures’ of dead persons, the representative of the initiative group said they do not rule out the possibility that someone put these on purpose so as to denigrate the party’s candidate.
So far the CEC has registered Marian Lupu (PDM), Mihai Ghimpu (PL), Iurie Leanca (PPEM) and Andrei Nastase (PPDA) as candidates for the office of President.
