Inmate escapes from Lipcani prison for minors

An 18-year-old inmate at the Lipcani-based correctional facility for minors broke out on Thursday, October 2, while at his work place, the Penitentiary Department reported. Condemned for murder to 11 years' imprisonment, the fugitive's sentence was halved in mid September. When caught, the inmate could serve additionally 2 to 5 years in jail. The fugitive is 180-185cm tall, has average weight and short dark hair. During the escape, he was presumably wearing a white T-shirt, black denim trousers, slippers and no socks. He has a tattoo on the right forearm displaying a knife with a dragon-shaped handle. The Penitentiary Department says the inmate is inclined to steal goods from groceries and apartments and also to steal cars. The same day, guards at the penitentiary no.17 in Rezina thwarted a 'massive' prison break attempt. They discovered a hole in the wall of a cell, which led to an approximately 20 meters long underground tunnel. The guards also found some 30 bags made of bedsheets and blankets containing soil and gravel excavated from the tunnel. 10 inmates are quizzed in connection with the attempt. If found guilty, they could spend extra 5 to 10 years behind bars.
