The partnership with the Russian Federation, which has a stable national currency and economic growth prospects, can have a stabilizing effect on the Transnistrian economy, deputy in the legislative body of Transnistria Andrei Sipcenko said. The statement was made in the context of the initiative to put the Russian rubble in free circulation in Transnistria, in parallel with the Transnistrian ruble, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol reports. On the other hand, specialists of the central bank of Transnistria consider that the attempt to try to solve the region’s economic problems by putting two currencies in circulation will lead to the aggravation of the present situation. Transnistria is an unrecognized republic, but has existed for 19 years as a state with strong industrial potential, the specialists of the bank say. 40% of Transnistria’s production is exported to the Russian Federation. Imports into Transnistria from Russia make up 33%. The Transnistrian ruble was put in circulation in August 1994.
