PAS MPs propose that the director of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) should be appointed by Parliament by a majority of votes of MP, at the suggestion of at least 20 MPs, with the approval of the legal commission for appointments and immunities. Currently, the legislation provides that the NAC director is chosen at a contest staged by the aforementioned commission, IPN reports.
A bill registered with Parliament provides that society considers the contests to choose candidates for executive posts in different institutions by the Government or Parliament not in all the cases end with the efficient activity of these authorities in safeguarding the public interest.
“The experience of contest holding on a parliamentary platform shows that in many cases a transparent selection of the best candidates is not ensured in these contests, with a political interest in supporting “preferred candidates” and disqualifying “inconvenient candidates” being present. In other cases, the chosen candidates weren’t named to executive posts, with other persons being appointed instead of them,” runs the informative note to the bill.
The PAS MPs also said that the modification of the method of choosing and appointing the NAC director will contribute to making the MPs more responsible when selecting candidates for this post.
The provisions concerning appointment for a five-year term without the possibility of applying for another term remained the same.
