The initiative to contract an internal law firm to gauge the extent of the damage caused by the Russian army’s stay on Moldova’s territory, proposed by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, is electoral rhetoric, but this also has a practical component, said experts invited to the program “Politics” produced by TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Oazu Nantoi called the initiative electoral pornography. “What will the government of Moldova do with the results of such an audit? We hired a company called Kroll and for now nothing is heard about the banking frauds except for the fact that the government does not investigate at all. We are in an election campaign and should treat the subject correspondingly,” he stated.

Political analyst Anatol Taranu considers this initiative has an electoral component and also a very important practical component. “From the perspective of the political settlement in Transnistria, I greet such an approach and consider it is welcome. At the same time, I’m aware that such an approach indisputably affects the Moldovan-Russian relations,” he noted.

According to political commentator Corneliu Ciurea, this is an approach to synchronize the Republic of Moldova with what Ukraine does. “Ukraine assessed the damage and has where to sue Russia, while the Republic of Moldova subscribes to this approach given that our government is pro-European and does not accept Russia’s supremacy,” stated the analyst.

Victor Stepaniuc, chairman of the commission for statehood consolidation and the country’s integration of the Civil Society Council working under the President of the Republic of Moldova, said this is a provocative statement that affects Moldova’s image and interests. “It will not have a follow-up. It is an initiative designed to misled, including the Western partners. Our country’s image is seriously damaged in the region and in the relations with the Russian Federation,” he noted.

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu proposed an initiative providing that Moldova will hire an international law firm to estimate the financial damage caused by the Russian army’s stay in Transnistria without the consent of the country’s constitutional authorities.
