The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered an initiative group that will collect signatures to initiate the voluntary amalgamation of Floreni village in Anenii Noi district with Sângera town in Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

The initiative group consists of 32 members. According to the CEC’s decision, the initiative group by March 26 is to collect the signatures of at least 10% of the number of voting-eligible citizens residing in Floreni village. That’s 330 people out of a total of 3,294 voters on January 26, 2024.

The CEC will provide the members of the initiative group with badges and petition lists for collecting signatures.

Under the legal provisions, voluntary amalgamation of administrative-territorial units involves the voluntary merging of two or more administrative-territorial units of the first level (villages/communes and cities/municipalities), based on local councils’ decisions. The basic conditions of voluntary amalgamation provide that the territory of the amalgamated administrative-territorial unit must be continuous, while the population must be of at least 3,000 inhabitants.
