The initiative group in support of Irina Vlah, who announced her participation in the presidential election, managed to collect about 24,000 signatures from 23 districts. The signature collection campaign will continue.

“As you well know, immediately after the registration of the initiative group, as provided by the legislation, we launched an extensive campaign to collect signatures throughout the country. I was pleasantly surprised by the receptivity of the people, by their sincere desire to support me, for which I thank them from the bottom of my heart. The energy of these people, the desire to get involved is for me another proof that the decision to run for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova was a correct one. Namely the sincere and kind-hearted people I met before and also in this campaign to collect signatures give me the necessary strength to move forward,” Irina Vlah said in a news briefing hosted by IPN.

Signatures will be yet collected during the coming days and will be then submitted to the Central Election Commission, as the current legislation requires. “I apologize to the people from the localities that we will not reach during this campaign to collect signatures. I received a number of signals from these localities that we are awaited there and that there is a great desire to support me there. But physically we will not be able to go everywhere during the period that was made available to us, but also because the number of signatures we can submit to the CEC is limited – at most 25,000,” stated Irina Vlah.

She promised that during the election campaign and also after it, she will visit these localities because it is very important for her to discuss with citizens, to inform herself from the first source about the problems they face and to jointly identify solutions to them.

Irina Vlah noted that this is the nice part of the campaign, but the less pleasant part is that during the last weeks she had been followed by employees of the special services. Also, she constantly received messages that “the scenario of her non-admission to the electoral race is being considered”. “I’m sending a clear message to the government: do not play with fire because the consequences can be completely different from those you expect! You came to power democratically, be good and respect democracy! Otherwise, you will go to the cemetery of history in the most shameful way possible,” said Irina Vlah, who intends to run independently for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova.
