The Central Election Commission (CEC) on September 11 registered the initiative group in support of candidate for President Alexandr Kalinin, after the required documents were submitted for the third time, IPN reports.
The first time, the CEC refused to register the initiative group for the reason that the constitution of the group was initiated earlier than 60 days before the presidential elections.
Alexandr Kalinin filed the documents the second time, but his application was rejected after some of the CEC members doubted the fact that the applicant knows the official language as he spoke in Russian only. He was asked to write one more application for registration in the official language, in the presence of the CEC members, but he refused, saying he provided a number of school and university diplomas showing that he knows Romanian.
The initiative group in support of Alexandr Kalinin is the 13th registered by the CEC so far. September 11 is the last day documents for registering initiative groups in support of potential runners in the November 1 presidential elections can be presented.
The initiative groups are to collect signatures in support of the candidates until October 1.
