Inhabitants of Chisinau might pay with cards in the public transport

Local authorities of Chisinau will examine the possibility to introduce cards as payment method for a travel with the public transport of the capital. Interim mayor Vasile Ursu announced about this on Monday in the operative meeting of the mayoralty. According to Ursu, introducing this method is necessary, as, Ursu noted, cash payment does not allow a part of paid money to get into the budget of transport operators, but into conductors’ pockets. He explained that, very soon, municipal counselors will be familiarized with this method by the specialists, who will explain if this method which is implemented in many European countries can be implemented in Moldova as well. The interim mayor also required to the responsible persons within the Urban Buses Fleet (UBF) and Chisinau Electric Transport Management (RTEC) to make proposals regarding the improvement of the situation in public transport, and if it is necessary, to go to the countries where this method is used and to learn more about it. According to him, in order to implement this method the municipality will spend about 200,000 lei. Ursu mentioned as well that the issue on tariffs adjustment in public transports will be postponed until it is decided to implement this card payment method. Tariffs theme shall be discussed at the next meeting of Chisinau Municipal Council.
