The museums situated in the Moldovan area of the Danube, which includes the districts Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, will develop tourist information centers by staging thematic exhibitions and training guides for a better management of the visitors.

In a news conference at IPN on January 22, the head of the Association for the Development of Tourism in Moldova Viorel Miron said that 14 of the 16 local museums were assisted by the association in setting up mobile exhibitions typical of the Danube area and in ensuring better communication with the visitors of the area within the EU Project “TransDanube”. These are the museums of Cahul, Giurgiulesti, Slobozia Mare, Valeni, Branza, Cantemir, Stoianovca, Taraclia, Corten, Tvardita, Cairaclia, Vinogradovca, Comrat, and Besalma.

The personnel were trained taking into account the specific features of each museum. A booklet for the museum guides will be published in February. The Association for the Development of Tourism designed informative posters that contain data about the Moldovan area of the Danube, translated into several languages. There were also prepared posters representing Moldova. They contain letter ‘I’, which for many states represents the word ‘information’. The posters will be placed in each of the 14 information centers so that they guide the tourists.

The museums of this area represent an attractive destination for about 39,400 people, which is approximately 5% of the total number of visitors of the country. About 2/3 of the visitors of the Moldovan area of the Danube or over 24,000 people come individually, while more than 15,000 come in organized groups. These use the services of 26 professional guides.

Over 184,000 foreigners go annually through the Moldovan area of the Danube. They cross it without knowing it or without seeing something here. In the area, one can admire the greatest European river, the largest natural lakes of the country, one of the greatest natural reserves, the largest village and the widest ethnic diversity in Moldova.
