The International “La Strada” Center is launching a camapaign to inform Moldovans seeks jobs abroad. The video clip that launches the campaign cautions job seekers and their families of various labor exploitation risks.

There has been a worrying tendency, seen at least in the last five years, of Moldovans being subjected to labor exploitation. La Strada says in a press release that a contributing factor has been the misperception, reinforced by dishonest private employers, that the visa-free travel regime granted by the EU also guarantees the right to work there. The number of such misled workers has constantly risen.

“People don’t grasp all the details of the employment process, even if they often seek ‘legal and advantageous’ offers that are advertised at every corner. Our citizens don’t use to ask questions, they know little of the ins and outs of the process and, sadly, they often wind up being deceived by all sorts of dishonest people from swindlers to organ traffickers”, says Ana Revenco, executive director of La Strada.

The internet, specialized websites and social media in particular, has been named by 78% of respondents in a La Strada survey as the leading source of adverts for jobs abroad. Three in four respondents said they were ready to accept a job from intermediaries. One in five respondents was ready to take a job from a total stranger.
