Employees of the Chisinau Children’s Rights Protection Division during a month will carry out information and awareness-raising activities as part of a campaign entitled “I’m important, don’t ignore me”. This is designed to increase awareness of the problem of neglected children and to encourage the population to report such cases, IPN reports.

In the campaign launch event, the Division’s acting head Lucia Caciuc said child neglect expanded in the municipality of Chisinau owing to the going of parents abroad, poverty and vices of some of the families. This refers not only to the population of Chisinau, but also to those who come to the municipality. “We are concerned about the current state of affairs. That’s why we aim to mobilize and do so that the number of neglected children, who are outside out focus, diminishes,” stated Lucia Caciuc.

According to the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention, 288 cases of negligence of children were reported in 2017 and 151 of these were confirmed. In the first quarter of 2018, there were reported 120 cases. “This is an alarming figure,” stated Lucia Caciuc, noting forces should be combined so as to cope with challenges. The situation is more serous when a child who remained without parental care remains outside our focus,” noted the official.

The phenomenon of negligence has a number of forms and they are all dangerous and have a negative impact on the child’s psychological state. “We will have meetings with parents where we will discuss the subject and will go to education institutions to distribute brochures and will meet with people of different age brackets,” stated Lucia Caciuc.
