An increase of about 20% in the number of new cases of COVID-19 is anticipated, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Tatiana Zatyk stated in the February 12 meeting of the outgoing Government, IPN reports.

The official noted the hospitalization capacities have decreased and the pressure on the health system continues to grow. Areas with 130 beds for patients confirmed with COVID-19 were made available in Chisinau today.

Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Cocoi said that if the cases increase in number, some of the restrictions imposed by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission earlier could be restored so as to prevent the spread of the infection.

The Ministry of Health’s statistics for February 12 show 1,280 new cases of COVID-19 in Moldova, out of over 4,000 tests, and 19 deaths. Of the 3,093 infected patients who are now hospitalized, 286 are in critical condition and 55 of them were put on a ventilator.
