The authors of the most representative 50 works that competed in the contest “Indifference fuels violence” were awarded diplomas, books and candies. More than 600 students from all over the country took part in the contest, Info-Prim Neo reports. The award ceremony and the contest are part of the world 16 days of activism against gender violence campaign. The students competed in two sections – drawing and literary creation. Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Poting said she was impressed by students’ works. “It was hard to choose the most relevant drawings and essays. We spent a day with the jury and a group of children who stated their opinions on the works. I’m glad that more boys took part in the contest this year. This is a sign that violence withdraws slowly from among the children,” said the deputy minister. The Education Ministry’s senior specialist in education Eugenia Parlikov said it was difficult for the members of the jury to determine where there was the child’s imagination and a real case of violence described. “When I read some of the essays at night, I started to cry as they were rally touching,” she stated. One of the winners, Ana Trofim from Chisinau, presented a drawing showing that indifference is heavier than violence. “I drew a scale where indifference weighs more than violence,” she said. Ana Baboglo from Capceac, Ceadir-Lunga, drew three children crying near their dead mother, with people passing nearby indifferently. Olga Mocanu, from the same settlement, said that in her essay she described the violence around us. An exhibition in memory of the persons who died as a result of acts of violence was staged as part of the campaign. It presents figures of persons staying with the hands crossed, which symbolizes indifference. Each of the figures represented a case of violence that ended in death. The organizers of the campaign carried a white ribbon at the chest to make common cause with the victims of violence. Launched in 1991, the 16 days of activism against gender violence campaign now covers 164 countries that organize different event on the theme between November 25 and December 10. In Moldova, the campaign has been held the ninth consecutive year. The contest “Indifference fuels violence” was at its fourth edition.
