The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) on May 4 launches the Press Freedom Days. In 2021, the events held on this occasion will be carried out under the slogan “Information is a public good. Support high-quality press!”, with urge-hashtag #SustinemPresa, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Center.

This year, the IJC lays emphasis on the necessity of media consumers supporting the free and independent press. The Center is convinced that only the citizens’ dependence on high-quality products can help journalism to develop in the Republic of Moldova.

On May 4, the IJC stages a virtual flashmob to encourage the media organizations, press institutions, journalists and media consumers to distribute a cover photo with the message “Information is a public good. Support high-quality press!” on Facebook and use a special frame for the profile photo with the urge #SustinemPresa. The cover photo and the profile photo will be created by the IJC, being offered to the users of Facebook on May 4.

The same day, the Center will launch the online campaign #SustinemPresa within which seven managers of press institutions will explain why it is important for the independent and free press to be supported by media consumers. Also, the IJC will publish an article that will underline seven reasons for which the free and independent press should be supported.

Also on May 4, the IJC will launch the memo on the freedom of the press for May 3, 2020 – May 3, 2021, will publish an article about ways in which the media consumers can support the free and independent press on www.media-azi.md and an infographic about the costs of producing a journalistic investigation.

On May 5, the IJC will announce the winners of the contest “Tulip Press Awards” in two sections – photo and online/print media – that centered on the observance of human rights in the Republic of Moldova.

On May 17, the Center will launch the rankings of the Moldovan state institutions that are most open to the press and will produce a caricature based on these rankings.
