[- What are the greatest accomplishments for Moldova’s Independence achieved during the last year?] - It was probably the fact that Europe opened doors for Moldova. This unprecedented opening allowed us to overcome the crisis without serious consequences. The formation of the Alliance for European Integration as government coalition is another accomplishment. It is again an unprecedented accomplishment that gets hopes for Moldova’s European integration prospects up. There are yet many failures as we had to deal with traitors and incompetent persons who initiated the constitutional reforms in 2000 and lost, then brought the Communists to power. 2005 was a very painful year for Moldova’s democratic future. Because of the traitors we had, including in the Democratic Moldova Block, the Communists remained in power for four years more. Certainly, we must meet people’s expectations by agreement, strengthen society in general and the Alliance for European Integration in particular. Unfortunately, the Alliance has cracked owing to the ambitions of some of its leaders and these cracks can have serious repercussions. [- What main danger has threatened Moldova’s independence this year?] - I cannot say that we have witnessed great dangers this year. We experienced yet many dangers the past years. The Nistru conflict of 1992, some of the signed documents and other situations prevented us from advancing and we remained stagnant or even regressed. The independence can no more be lost as Moldova was recognized in 1991 by over 160 countries and became a member of the United Nations and the Council of Europe. [- Could you continue the sentence “After 19 years of independence, Moldova is for me ...] - ...what I accomplished together with the Moldovan people because I voted for Independence on August 27, 1991, when I was a member of Moldova’s first democratic Parliament and I’m proud of this. I’m also proud of the creation of the Alliance for European Integration, of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Party that had fought with the Communists Party one-to-one for eight years and paved the way for the democratic forces.
